Customer Reviews:
great purchase
I love this item! Coffee is hot for hours - like 8 hours, carafe works great, coffee brews quickly, timer is easy to use.. THANK YOU!! Another note, I haven't had any trouble with spills or trouble pouring water in pot to brew and I am not generally adept at those types of things...

Great Taste But Not User Friendly
Replaced a glass thermal carafe machine. This unit makes great tasting coffee, but I find it less easy to use. One big issue is the filter bowl. It is too short requiring you to force a # 4 filter down into it. It also barely accepts the needed amount of coffee grinds for strong coffee (5 scoops) and it does not keep coffee hot for more than about an hour, due to the aluminum carafe. Aluminum can never hold heat as well as glass.
All in all, we went back to the old Krups brewer. If taste is the higher priority, this is definitely the brewer to buy.

Owned 1 for 2 years, bought another!
I looked for a large thermal carafe, metal filter, reliable coffee maker, and this was where my research took me.

I'm very happy with the performance of this machine. So much so that we have just purchased another one.

What People Talk About Thermal Carafes »

eeeee asked on Apr 28, 2009:

Should I Buy A Coffee Maker With A Thermal Carafe?

Paul B answered:
Coffee is best right after brewing. If it stays on a warmer after brewing becomes bitter because the heat, in addition to burning off some of the water, is changing the chemical make-up of the coffee. Thermal carafe brewers solve the problem by eliminating the cooking of the coffee - that's why coffee shops use thermal carafes, airpots or thermal servers.

Absolutely they work. Or......... you could get a pod based maker like my Braun. I love it and I don't end up drinking too much coffee.
Jason asked on Dec 31, 2008:

Do thermal carafe coffee makers save energy?

chogopi answered:
The idea behind the design of these coffee makers is to eliminate having the coffee sit on a warming plate after brewing. After 10 minutes or so, the coffee takes on a burned flavor. The carafe coffee makers instead brew the coffee into the carafe where it is kept hot for a couple hours or more.

They save energy in that the coffee maker shuts off after the brewing cycle rather than stay on the keep the coffee hot on the warming plate.

Cuisinart Grind & Brew Coffee Maker - Sub a Glass Carafe for the Thermal Carafe?

That One Guy answered:
She can absolutely get a glass carafe to replace the thermal one. In fact, I've linked to the replacement glass carafe.

She'll need to buy this real Cuisinart-brand replacement glass carafe because it has the specially-designed lid to push up on the little button that allows coffee to freely pour from the brew basket.

The only minor down side is that, since the Grind & Brew comes with a thermal carafe, it doesn't have a warming plate on the bottom to keep the carafe warm. This won't cause any problems with making the coffee or using the machine, it just means her coffee will cool down after a while...not a huge deal breaker or anything.

Other than that, if she buys this glass replacement carafe, she'll be fine.
