Customer Reviews:
Great when it worked; broke after 14 months
I loved this product when it was working. I bought it in May 2009, and it made hot water quickly and reliably until last week, when it stopped working. I called Aroma, and they said that it had a 12-month warranty. They also said, however, that it "should not have stopped working after 14 months," and that they "stand behind their products" and provide out-of-warranty service. Unfortunately, the fees, handling and shipping for such service would add up to something in the neighborhood of 25 or 30 bucks, and I can just about get a new unit for that. I explained that, if (a) this "shouldn't" have happened, and (b) they "stand behind their products," then professing to offer service but making that option financially untenable was a funny way of showing it. Both the customer service rep and her supervisor were unmoved by this line of discussion, but I maintain that their policy is functionally the same as saying "you pays your money and you takes your chances; go buy a new one!" That's fine I guess, but I probably won't be buying a new one from Aroma.

I am going to try my primitive gadget-mending skills on it, and if that fails, I will be in the market for a new kettle. As i noted, probably a different brand. I can't afford to buy one of these every 14 months.

Efficient, fast and reliable- I love it!
I live next to this water kettle in the winter. It is fantastic for making hot tea on a cold day. And, unlike my last kettle, I never have to worry if I walk away and forget about it. It shuts off automatically! I have one, my mom-in-law has one, and we've given it as a gift within the family. I highly recommend this item!

Everything is just right, only caveat is the speed to boil
Have this for over two years now, still works like new. Always shuts itself off (those that think it doesn't - try closing the lid :)

In the pictures it looks like the cable retracts, mine doesn't - maybe I need to open up the base and oil it. But it's very convenient, looks good, water tastes great. Only caveat is that it takes a while to boil water, but that's usually not an issue unless you're looking to boil more than one load.

All in all, highly recommended especially for the price.

Would tea kettles on wood burning stove act the same as a humidifier in our house?

jesusrocks answered:
When my parents had a wood burning stove, they kept a large pot full of water on the stove - it seemed to work great - we never really needed a humidifier - except when we got sick - then they switched to an oil furnance and always need to run a humidifier in the winter months - I would say the kettles or a pot full of water would be comprable
  • ijcoffin also said:
Tea kettles are a great way to add humidity to a room or a house for that matter.
As far as I am concerned they are way better than humidifiers. They do not require any extra energy, and they do not have any filters to clean. Besides they add to the ambiance.
We use one all the time. Oh! one caution; don't let them run out of water as that can burn out the bottom of the kettle.

Can stainless steel tea kettles be used on glass top stoves?

AMERICAN BORN EAST INDIAN answered:
I think it should be okay as long as you do not jam the kettle down on the glass. Of course that will lead to shattering. I would say low to medium would be good bets.

Old copper tea kettles need cleaned?

M M T answered:
There are a lot of different home remedies for polishing copper like lemon juice and salt, ketchup and 100's more but I've found them to be terribly inefficient. Yeah, we want to clean the copper but not take all day!

So listen to your 2nd poster and go get some Barkeeper's Friend! It's wonderful for anything metal! And cheap! Dampen the item and give it a good sprinkle of the Barkeeper's. Take a sponge and smear the product around to get a fairly even coating. Then walk away for 10-15 minutes to let the product work. Come back and start scrubbing. If your items are pretty heavily tarnished, it's going to take come time and probably a couple of sprinkle, smear and wait sessions but it will work!

I have several copper tea kettles and a big copper bowl I use for decoration in my kitchen and I don't use anything but the Barkeeper's on them. Oh! After your finished scrubbing, give each item a quick wash in warm soapy water to remove any residue and dry them with a soft towel. This prevents water spots which will retarnish your items.
