Cute, but broken
I was giving these sticks as a gift, but when I opened the box, one of the sticks was broken! We will attempt to fix it ourselves...but it was very disappointing.

Great Gift
I bought 3 sets of these swizzle sticks and gave 2 of them away as Christmas gifts. Both parties receiving them as gifts thought they were very cool. I kept a set for myself and have received many comments on their detail. Finally some fun swizzle sticks that aren't glass!

Great little swizzles...
I ordered these because they are cute, yes, but mainly because they are acrylic and I will be using them out on my patio this summer. Nothing worse than going to a affaire d'été and having your swizzle broken!

FSL Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony Planned

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Final Plans are underway for the 2009 Florida State League Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

The inaugural ceremony will be held on November 9, 2009 at the Plaza Resort and Spa located at 600 N. Atlantic Avenue in Daytona Beach, Fla.

There will be a cocktail hour followed by dinner and the ceremony. Dress will be cocktail attire. The cocktail hour will start at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m.

Tickets for fans that are attending the ceremony will be $75.00 per person. Payment can be by check, money order, or cash. You may obtain tickets by calling the Florida State League office at (386) 252-7479.

The initial class of inductees is listed below.

I am having a cocktail hour at my wedding and I was wondering.. what exactly do people DO at cocktail hour? Drink cocktails?
I am having hordourves (WTF. i dont know how to spell that..) served and my wedding planner told me to come up with a signature drink. Does anyone know any bright purple cocktails? (my colors are bright purple & yellow)

Her advised: cocktail hour is a time usually where your guests can arrive at the reception site and get some drinks and snacks while the bridal party is still taking pictures. It is also a time for everyone to mingel a little and greet each other since not everyone will be sitting at the same table... thus people that know each other may not have time to chat once dinner starts.

Purple cocktails:

1. Purple Rain Champagne Cocktail - champagne + red & Blue food coloring

2. Purple Rain - Ingredients: 1 part blue maui 3 parts cranberry juice

3. Purple Mask - Vodka 1 Oz., White Creme De Cacao1/2 Oz. , Grape Juice 1 Oz.

4. Purple Haze - Ingredients: 3/4 oz blue curacao,1/4 oz triple sec, 1/2 fill lime bar mix and ginger ale, Splash of grenadine

5. Purple Cocktail -
1 oz Southern Comfort® peach liqueur
1 oz Blue Curacao liqueur
1 oz blueberry liqueur
1 oz sloe gin
1 splash lime juice
1 splash sweet and sour mix
1 splash 7-Up soda

Cocktail hour?
O.K our wedding is at 6:00 pm and reception is at 7:30. The ceremony is at the same place as the reception. We will be having a cocktail hour while we are doing out pictures outside. How should I do this? I don't want people already drunk by the time we get to the reception. My fiance and I are buying all the Alcohol ourselves and hiring bartenders. Can I put a limit on drinks for cocktail hour? like give tickets to each person? During the reception we are having open bar and I don't care who gets drunk I just don't want people getting drunk before. Does anyone have any suggestions?? If so what kind of drinks should we serve during cocktail hour?
Edit: We are inviting a lot of our friends and most of them are college students that know how to drink. lol Our colors are Canary, White and Pink. We will be serving appetizers during cocktail hour.

celticwarrior_amazonwoman advised: So one component of the question: what kinds of drinks to serve at cocktail hour. Do you have a colour theme or other kind of theme for your wedding/menu etc? Like say your wedding colours were blue and green, you could serve green apple and blue (blue curacao) martinis. You have to serve food of course, that's a given, because you can't have guests drinking for 90 minutes on an empty stomach. So you could do a wine and cheese thing, or tapas and sangria, or Mexican finger food and margaritas.

Your next concern begs me to ask, what kinds of guests are you inviting? I don't mean any offense by this. I'm just wondering because generally decent people who are invited to a wedding understand the reception, or the cocktail hour beforehand, is not some drink until you puke party. Unless you have some guests on your list who get excited at any invitation that has free booze on it, I don't think you really need to worry about giving out war rations. You make it classy and serve your food with it and you should be fine. At the very least, starchy foods like rice, potatoes, and bread are good to serve where alcohol consumption is a concern. This could entail anything from sushi rolls, to bite sized sandwiches, wraps, pita pockets, to mini potato pancakes or crab cakes, or any number of other things.

Or is it held in a smaller nearby room? What if we decide to have our reception in a tent? Then where will it be held. Thanks- I am new to all of this :)

hitchnj advised: any of the suggestions you listed can work.. look at venues and then decide for yourself.. my cousin had her cocktail hour in the reception room and they put out a buffet on the dance floor.. if you do the tent then you can have an area set up for the reception under the tent or possibly in a nearby building..

Lilly V advised: The reason for it is that there is enough time for all guests to arrive and also for the wedding party to have the pictures taken. Yes, prior to the ceremony you can take the brides party and the grooms party seperately prior to the ceremony, but the pics of all together are usually done durring this time. It is just nice to have a period of time in between for the guests. It is not necessary, but in my opinion makes things easier for the bridal party and guests. Good luck in any decision you make.
