Customer Reviews:
Egg Timer is an Egg Saver
I LOVE this product! It is one of the first things I bought when I started cooking more for myself and now I just bought another one for my sister after she over cooked 2 dozen eggs for easter (NASTY!).
I'm the type of person who is always paranoid things aren't cooked enough when cooking anything like eggs, chicken, beef, etc, But this product tells you straight on, what state your egg is in (soft, medium, or hard), so you won't get one that's over boiled or almost raw.

It's so simple and easy to use but absolutely ingenious! You just drop it into the water with your eggs, and as the water boils and the eggs cook, it begins to change color. It starts turning black at the rims and continues its way inwards as eggs get harder. Once you see the black from around to whichever type of egg you are trying to make (soft, medium, or hard), clearly written in the middle of the timer, you just turn off your stove and they are ready! Sometimes I turn it off a little earlier because the eggs continue to cook a little if you don't take them out of the boiling water right away.

This timer is shaped like half an egg. The bottom is flat so that it doesn't move around/flip over in the water. It is always clear to read/see, even in boiling water.

People may think you can just use a timer to boil eggs, but that is still a guessing game. You can set ANY timer for eggs, set it to X amount of minutes and you will have eggs. But other things can change the effectiveness of it, i.e. lower/higher flames. So its really a guess of how much time you would need to boil an egg until its just soft but not raw, or over cooked. But that's the best part about this item it's not really a timer. This tells you EXACTLY what is going on in the egg because it is actually cooking like one. So there is NO GUESSING!

I will admit, I love gadgets! Some of them are really useless or unnecessary but this one I could not live without! I would not love eggs as much.

And such an awesome product for under $10? It's a must buy. It makes a great gift for weddings or house warming gifts too. People are always interested in it when they are left on their own to boiler their own eggs, haha. And they always end up loving it.

no smell
The egg timer worked great! My eggs came out perfect. I was waiting for the horrible smell based on other reviews and that never happened.

Possible cause for smell???
I have not bought this yet but the smell may be due to the bottom of the pot conducting right into the timer. The egg only contacts the bottom of the pot in a very small area so direct conduction from the burner to the pot to the egg is not a problem. The plastic egg timers I have seen have a flat bottom so the heat from the burner goes right into the timer. Maybe add a colapsable strainer

start both timers simultaneously. when 5min timer stops.stop the 7 minute timer as well.now there is still 2 mins left in the 7 min timer.start both timers simultaneously again.when the 7 min timer stops after 2 mins stop the 5 minute timer as well.now there is 3 minutes left on the 5min timer and 0 left in 7 mins timer.start both timers again simultaneously.stop both timers when the 5 mins timer stops after 3 mins. now there is 4 min left on the 7 mins timer. now for the last time start both timers simultaneously again. stop both timers after the 4 mins is up on the 7 min timer.now there is 1 min left on the 5 min timer. now start boiling the eggs and start the 5 min timer simultaneously.as soon as it is 1 min the 5 min timer will stop(A), start the 7 min timer at that moment.after 7 mins the 7 mins timer will stop(B) now start the 5 min timer (C).u have your 13 mins, stop boiling the egg.
A=1min B = 7 min C = 5min
total = 1+7+5= 13mins, perfectly boiled egg

You have two traditional hourglass type egg timers. One takes seven minutes for the sand to run through, the o?

original_one answered:
Start both timers together. When the 7 minute timer finishes, turn it over immediately. It will run for 4 minutes before the 11 minute timer finishes. Turn the 7 minute timer over again at that point and it will measure a further 4 minutes : 15 minutes in total.
  • map_n_az also said:
    I'd say to turn the 7 minute hourglass over and when the sand had half way run through to then turn the 11 minute hourglass over and let it run through all the way. This will be 14 1/2 minutes and you can count to thirty for the last half minute. Best I could come up with, but I'm sure there's a more mathematical or logical answer.

Do sauna timers have to be more accurate than egg timers?

Lewis Y answered:
They are usually standard mechanical or digital timers installed on a sauna. Again, it doesn't often matter if the timer runs 22 minutes instead of 20 minutes.

However, yes, sauna timers have to be much more accurate than egg timers, PLUS, they have to be more reliable.

People actually die every year in sauna accidents when the timer fails, and they have for some reason passed out in the sauna without a friend to monitor them.

Alcohol or other intoxicants are often involved in sauna deaths.

Alcohol, and I presume other intoxicants, do not go well with either saunas, or steam baths, because it makes it too easy for the subject to lose consciousness.

Addendum: Something happening here I don't understand in re: YA.
